Frequently Asked Questions

How can therapy help?

Therapy provides a safe and supportive place for you to share your unique circumstances with a non-judgmental professional. As your therapist I will help you examine your thoughts and feelings and gain new perspectives as you work towards a healthier way of being. You will learn effective strategies for coping with overwhelming emotions and will gain a greater sense of wholeness and calm within yourself. Therapy is a process; nothing gets better right away. A commitment to showing up each week and processing your thoughts, feelings and experiences can help you to begin to feel better. Together we will identify what you are seeking to change in your life, what is holding you back and what can be done to improve your overall happiness and general sense of well-being.

What can I expect at the first session?

Our first meeting is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to therapy, your hopes and goals, any concerns, and a time to answer your questions about my approach. I encourage you to share on a level that feels comfortable for you. Therapy is a process that is inherently vulnerable, and as trust is built you will begin to feel more comfortable. Finding the right therapist is one of the most crucial elements to therapy. During the first several sessions, you and I will both be evaluating our “fit” and our ability to engage in meaningful and productive work together.

How does therapy work?

Therapy is a collaborative process in which your therapist will help you to explore what is not working in your life, identify strategies to manage stress, increase your self-confidence, and improve your coping skills. Important elements of therapy include:

  • Developing a trusting and open relationship with your therapist

  • Being willing to embark on an honest exploration of your thoughts, feelings, wants & needs, and concerns

  • Making a sincere effort to try new solutions

How long are the sessions?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes. I offer longer session lengths as well, depending on your need, which we can discuss when scheduling your initial appointment.

We don’t have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.
