Hi, I’m Karlie

As a queer woman, I’m committed to supporting my community on their path toward authentic self-expression and mental, physical and spiritual well-being.

I know the unique hurdles and societal pressures faced by LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, from the intricacies of coming out to navigating the realms of acceptance in both personal and professional spheres. And so, I offer a safe space for exploration, validation, and empowerment.

I believe every member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community deserves to live a life true to themselves, free from the shadows of judgment and isolation. As a therapist with nearly two decades of experience, my practice is infused with an understanding of your specific needs and experiences.

Integrating the compassionate and reflective approach of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a dedication to fostering a secure relationship with yourself, my therapy sessions are designed to support you in fully embracing your identity.

Let's explore your connections with others to enhance your journey toward self-acceptance, confidence, and resilience in a world that often presents unique challenges for LGBTQIA2S+  people.

Any questions about therapy for the LGBTQIA2S+ community?

  • I accept Venmo, PayPal, and bank transfers as forms of payment. Payment is expected at the time that services are provided.

My fee is $200 per therapeutic hour (50 minutes.) For longer sessions, my fees are prorated accordingly.

Phone, text, and email communication between sessions are prorated accordingly.

I offer a limited number of sliding-scale appointments for people who would otherwise be unable to engage in therapy at my regular fee. Please contact me if you would like more information.

  • I don’t accept payments from health insurance providers.

Your health insurance plan may provide an “out-of-network provider” benefit, allowing you to receive reimbursement for the services I provide at the rate your insurance pays. You will receive a monthly invoice, which you can submit to your health insurance company for reimbursement.

  • Sessions are typically 50 minutes. However, depending on your needs, I offer longer session lengths, which we can discuss when scheduling your initial appointment.

  • At this time, all my appointments are online using a secure, HIPPA-compliant platform to ensure confidentiality. This makes it easy for you to attend appointments without having to worry about parking or getting stuck in traffic.

I see clients on weekdays between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.

  • Initially, our appointments will be every week. As you start to make progress, your appointments will be every two weeks to once a month. The duration of therapy can vary widely depending on your needs, the nature of the issues being addressed, and the goals of therapy. Some clients may find short-term therapy (e.g., 6-12 sessions) beneficial for specific issues, while others may engage in longer-term therapy to explore deeper emotional patterns or ongoing support. We can discuss this further during your initial session.

  • Our first meeting is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to therapy, your hopes and goals, any concerns, and a time to answer your questions about my approach. I encourage you to share on a level that feels comfortable for you. Therapy is an inherently vulnerable process; as trust is built, you will feel more comfortable. Finding the right therapist is one of the most crucial elements of therapy. During the first several sessions, you and I will both be evaluating our “fit” and our ability to engage in meaningful and productive work together.

  • Please provide 24 hours notice of cancellation for any appointment you cannot keep or wish to reschedule. The full session fee will be charged for no-shows, cancellations, or rescheduling with less than 24 hours’ notice.

  • Therapy tailored for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals addresses the unique challenges and experiences related to one’s sexual orientation and gender identity. This includes topics like coming out, dealing with discrimination or family rejection, navigating relationships, and fostering a positive self-identity. I offer a safe space to explore these issues and can provide support, affirmation, and coping strategies.

  • While the therapy techniques may be similar to therapy for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals often incorporate a deeper understanding of LGBTQIA2S+ culture, the impact of societal attitudes, and specific mental health risks. I use approaches that affirm your identity and experiences, focusing on building resilience, self-acceptance, and a supportive community.

  • Yes, therapy can play a crucial role in supporting people through gender transition. This can include exploring gender identity, discussing the steps involved in transitioning (whether social, legal, and/or physical) and addressing the emotional aspects of transitioning.

  • Therapy offers a confidential and supportive setting to examine and work through feelings of internalized homophobia or transphobia. Through therapy, you can explore the origins of these feelings, understand their impact on your self-esteem and relationships, and develop strategies to cultivate self-acceptance and pride in your identity. I can guide you through this process, helping you to challenge negative beliefs and embrace your true, beautiful, and unique Self.
